U.S. and Cuba Resume Discussions

The Wall Street Journal reported that Cuba has agreed this past weekend to resume discussions with the U.S. on topics such as the legal immigration of Cubans to the U.S. and direct mail service between the two countries.

The Cuban government notified the U.S. that it had accepted a request from the Obama administration last month to restart the immigration talks, which were suspended by former President Bush back in 2003. They have also indicated a desire to cooperate with the U.S. on combating terrorism, drug trafficking, and on hurricane preparedness.

This is a good indication that the countries are willing to work together and possibly end the over 40 year embargo the U.S. imposed on Cuba.
